THE SECRET GARDEN

Summer: early June - mid-September

Summer is peak season for many beloved blooms.

In Peak Bloom: Amaranth, Specialty Zinnias, Celosias, Sunflowers, Dahlias, Scabiosa, Rudbeckia, Lilies, Snapdragons (!!!), Feverfew, Cosmos, Gomphrena, Asters, and Achillea to name a few.... Dahlias are the superstars at most flower farms, but at Pear Bloom Farm, you will be distracted by all the other varieties we grow.

Cosmos: Get lost in a sea of Cosmos! We have a 500ft (!!!) bed of cosmos that leads you to a breathtaking view of the majestic Mt. Adams. This is a summer highlight, perfect on it’s own or to add a little whimsy to your bouquet.

Our most loved Summer flowers

Yesenia Loves: Snapdragons and Amaranth! Amaranth, because of all the drama it brings. One of the varieties is called “Love-Lies-Bleeding”; and if that’s not dramatic then we don’t know what is. And Snapdragons are adored simply because they are fun, they have a unique shape and they just keep blooming!

George Loves: Lilies! This favorite wildflower is the Mount Hood Lily and they just smell SO insanely good.

Serynna Loves: Cosmos! They are whimsical and bright with their light pastel colors, and they are exactly what we dream of when we picture an English cottage garden in the countryside.

Spring: end of April - end of May

Spring blooms mark the much anticipated start of the flower season.

In Peak Bloom: Narcissus are the very first to bloom followed by Tulips.

Tulips: We grow over 20 tulip varieties including magnificent double and parrot tulips! These specialty varieties are rare to find at U Pick farms. We even have Vincent Van Gogh black tulips.

Our most loved Spring flowers

Yesenia Loves: Yellow single tulips because they just feel like sunshine.

Serynna Loves: Apeldoorn's Elite Tulips because it looks like the sunset.

Fall: mid-September - end of October

Warm your soul with the quintessential fall blooms.

In peak bloom:  While many of our summer blooms including Sunflowers, Sunset Zinnias, Amaranth, and Statice, are still going strong until we receive our first fall frost, Marigolds and moody plum Sunflowers take center stage.

Marigolds: We grow THOUSANDS of marigolds in preparation for a very special celebration: Día De Los Muertos, Day of the Dead. These flowers are meaningful and incorporated in so many ways including garlands, crowns, altars, bouquets, dyes, and they are even edible!

Our most loved Fall flowers

Yesenia Loves: Sunset Zinnias because they are spectacular! A true beauty that can only be appreciated in person.

Serynna Loves: Teddy Bear sunflowers because of the adorable name and because they look so different from any other sunflowers out there.

THE ORCHARD

Our journey started with pears and with 40-45% of pears distributed throughout the United States grown from Hood River Valley, we are proud of the pear varieties we grow! What has started from a pear farm, has expanded to so much more.

Some of the oldest apple trees in the valley are proudly grown on our farm. We have a 4 acre orchard of Newtown Pippin Heirloom apples (the original apple for apple pie). This is a perfect apple in so many ways. Excellent for fresh eating, pies, ciders, juicing, caramel apples, and winter storage.

Heirloom Pears & Apples

Summer: early August - end of August

(sometimes early September)

In Peak Bloom: Starkrimson, Bartlett and Red Bartlett are the Summer Pears.

Our most loved Summer fruit

Yesenia Loves: Starkrimson pears! They are beautiful alone, on the tree, and on a plate! Also, the Stark trees are absolutely stunning in the fall when their leaves start to turn color. Just the best!

Serynna Loves: Starkrimson because they are so juicy and sweet! My favorite way to eat them is on pizza with red onion, sharp cheddar, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze on top.

Winter: late August - end of October

In Peak Bloom: Anjou, Bosc, Gold Bosc, Comice, Forelle, Seckel are the Winter Pears.

Our most loved Winter fruit

Yesenia Loves: Bosc! They are always ready to go for anything. You can pick one right off the tree to eat and it tastes sweet without needing to ripen. Once it’s more ripe, they are excellent for baking anything! Poach it in red wine for an effortlessly fancy treat!

Serynna Loves: Comice because they are delicious and easily one of our top favorite snacks.
